This month, we have yet not run any contest so we will be running a very interesting contest with the help of good guys at NuoDB. NuoDB has just released version 2.0 and by participating in the contest, you can win NuoDB T-Shirts.
NuoDB’s NewSQL distributed database is designed to be a single database that works across multiple servers, which can scale easily, and scale on demand. That’s one system that gives high connectivity, but no latency, complexity or maintenance issues. MySQL works in some circumstances, but a period of growth isn’t one of them. So as a company moves forward, the MySQL database can’t keep pace. Data storage and data replication errors creep in. Soon the diaspora of the offices becomes a problem. Your telephone system isn’t just distributed, it is literally all over the place. You can read my detailed article about how Why VoIP Service Providers Should Think About NuoDB’s Geo Distribution.
Here is the contest:

Contest Part 1:
(1) NuoDB Automation Console
The Automation Console is a streamlined web interface for launching and monitoring databases and database resources in the NuoDB Domain.
(2) Java Stored Procedures
NuoDB v2.0 introduces support for Java language Stored Procedures.
(2) ZFS File System
The ZFS file system allows the user to take snapshots (copy-on-write transactional object model) of the archive and journal. These snapshots can then be used to recover the database to a consistent state.
(3) Scale-Out Performance
(4) Geo-Distribution
(5) Auto Administration
Contest Part 2:
Windows 7 (64-bit) nuodb-2.0.windows.x64.exe 185 mb
Windows 7 Professional 32 bit 184MB
1. Java language stored procedures
2. New automation console for NuoDB
3. Mulitple instances can be created on a geo-distributed database
Part1:
1) Automated Administration:
****************************
Along with the geographical features, the company has also added in a capability called “automated administration” which provides a management console that lets admins define data policies, rules and SLAs, and then will help them create the database cluster.
Users can leverage the Automation Console to perform the following tasks:
i) Start a database on a single host, a cluster, or in a geo-distributed setup.
ii) Elastically scale up the database.
iii) Facilitate automatic database restart.
All of the actions above can be completed at the touch of a button through the use of database templates
2) Java Stored Procedures:
**********************
1) The company has also added in a feature called “stored procedure functionality” which lets admins write triggered or stored procedures in Java, letting them embed control in the transactional tier. Potential applications of this could include embedding security rules into the database. This is related to efforts made by NoSQL behemoth MongoDB to add in-database analytics and trigger functions to its eponymous DB.
2) Stored procedures written in SQL still achieve the maximum performance boost, but Java stored procedures support a richer programming language, third-party libraries and an easy migration path from client-side code to server-side extension.
3) ZFS File System:
****************
The ZFS file system allows the user to take snapshots (copy-on-write transactional object model) of the archive and journal. These snapshots can then be used to recover the database to a consistent state.
4) Storefront Multi-instance Support:
*********************************
