In the year 2017 just for an experiment, I decided to start a SQL Server Performance Tuning Practical Workshop. I had no idea, that I will be the biggest and most popular service delivered by SQLAuthority.com. Since the year 2017, I have been delivering one or two workshops every week.
Feedback and Revamping Course
The matter of fact here are some of the statistics of the year 2018, I had earlier shared the same numbers for the year 2017, so I am not including them here.
- Workshop Conducted: 112
- Organizations: 84
- Attendees: 654
- Single Attendee Workshop: 25
- Workshop with 8 attendees: 23
- Maximum Attendees in a single workshop: 14
Based on the feedback, I realize that the most popular module of this course is Module 2: WhichIndex – An Interactive Game with WHERE clause and Multi-Column Indexes. I have collected over 25 selected feedbacks and completely revamped the entire course now. I have removed some of the not so essential elements which users find not effective and replaced with the content which was rated as the most helpful or closer to the real world.
What is Covered in this Training?
You can read what is covered in this course by going to link over here and scrolling to the section – What is Covered in this training.
Here are the most popular four modules of this SQL Server Performance Tuning Practical Workshop.
- Module 1: Indexing, Worst Practices, and Solutions (70 minutes)
- Module 2: WhichIndex – An Interactive Game with WHERE clause and Multi-Column Indexes (70 minutes)
- Module 3: Don’t Change Code – An Interactive Game with Functions, Views, and Indexes (50 minutes)
- Module 4: Your Server, Your Questions
ChangeLog of the Workshop
So the essential question is what has changed since this course was offered earlier. Here is the quick change log about what has been added new to this course. I am not listing the content which was removed as if that was essential, they would have made it to the content of the course.
- Added module of indexing best practices
- Added more interactiveness around usage of functions
- Brought back module of Views, Indexes, and Performance based on feedback
- Simplified most of the demonstrations to run them stand-alone without sample databases
- Added 1 powerpoint slide around indexing concept
- Added conversation around TempDB pressure
- Added demonstrations of under-utilization CPU with Wait Stats
Interactive Live Workshop
I have completely revamped the SQL Server Performance Tuning Practical Workshop and now it is even more interactive then before. If you are the one person who just likes to watch but not interact, you just have to let me know early so I will remove the interactiveness from the course and will make it more like YouTube where you just have to watch the course and get involved in the learning games.
Another element which I am trying to experiment is adding live video to my training. I have previously received mixed feedback about my live video feed. Some people say they like the human video feed and like to see me talking on the screen along with my computer screen and some only prefer to watch the regular screenshot.
I have decided to go this experiment one more try. If you want me to watch live, you can always ask me to turn on my webcam and I will come live to talk to you. However, if you have internet bandwidth constraint, I will keep my live feed off and we will watch my screen only.
Workshop Delivery
After delivering over 1000+ workshops in the last many years, I have figured out the best to way to learn any technology is via the internet as one can learn from anywhere without leaving their comfortable workspace. I find GoToMeeting provides so far the best experience for the training. As soon as the workshop is confirmed, you receive a GoToMeeting invite which you can forward to your team members.
GoToMeeting works for our experience. We take two small comfort breaks during the workshop and during those breaks, I am always online where we can discuss pretty much anything – SQL Server, Big Data, Travel, Life, CrossFit or anything you would love to discuss.
One Time Deal till January 31, 2019
If you sign up for the workshop before January 31, 2019, you will be eligible for 1 FREE hour of consultation in the next 90 days of the training. Yes, it is absolutely true. I will be offering USD 400 worth of free consulting hour if you sign up for the workshop before January 31, 2019.
Note: Remember, you just have to sign up for the training January 31, 2019. You can select your any date in the year 2019 for your SQL Server Performance Tuning Practical Workshop.
