Women in SQL: The Youngest SQL Speaker at SQL Bangalore

Women in SQL day at the SQL Bangalore User Group on April 20, 2013 was a milestone. To my knowledge, no user group in India had ever held an event celebrating Women Power in SQL. We had a strong lineup of speakers, and more than 100 people came to learn and to cheer.

• Introduction to SSDT by Deepthi Anantharam (Microsoft)
• Usage of SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB by Chaitra Nagaraj (MVP ASP.NET)
• Working with SQL Server Maintenance Plans by Prabhjot and Shraddha (Microsoft)
• Migrating from Reporting Services 2008 to 2012 by Jaishree Karira (Independent Consultant)

The Youngest SQL Speaker

For a surprise, the organizers wanted to bring a younger SQL speaker to the stage. We looked around and found one who could talk a bit about SQL Server. The speaker was only 3 years and 7 months old. This speaker was familiar with big data, SQL Server and basic SQL syntax. The speaker also owned SQL query books.

If you have not guessed it yet, the speaker was my daughter, Shaivi Dave.

Women Power

It was a proud moment for me. My own daughter stood with me on stage and spoke confidently about SQL Server. More than 100 technology enthusiasts were listening. It was Shaivi’s stage debut, and I believe there will be many more.

At that age, Shaivi liked everything young kids like to do, and also had a real interest in SQL and big data.

Women in SQL day was not one speaker’s day, it was a whole community cheering for the next generation.
