TechEd India 2013 Bangalore and Pune: A Photo Journey

TechEd India 2013 Bangalore and Pune was my fifth TechEd, and my fourth in a row as a speaker. TechEd is the premier event from Microsoft, and presenting there brings a different level of pressure. This year TechEd India ran in two cities, so the fun was double. Here is my photo journey through both.

TechEd Bangalore was on March 18 and 19, 2013, and TechEd Pune was on March 25 and 26, 2013. I presented two sessions in each city, four presentations in total.

SQL Server Performance Troubleshooting: Ancient Problems and Modern Solutions

Many believe performance tuning is an art lost in time. The truth is that the art has evolved. There are more tools and techniques today to beat the old, troublesome scenarios. Three resources create performance problems when they hit a bottleneck: CPU, IO and memory.

This session focused on detecting and resolving high CPU scenarios, with other performance tips as time allowed. Attendees left with clear ideas and action items for each of these resource-heavy situations.

SQL Server Indexes: The Unsung Hero

Slow queries are the most common problem developers face with SQL Server. It is easy to blame SQL Server. The issue usually lives in how the queries are written and how the indexes are set up.

This session showed ways to find what slows SQL Server down, and indexing tricks to fix it. Developers walked out with scripts and knowledge they could apply to their own servers right after the session.

Community, Education and Friends

I go to events for three reasons: community, education and friends. Like every year, TechEd India 2013 gave me all three. I met many of my friends and spent time with the community at large.

TechEd India 2013 was not two conferences, it was one long conversation with the community in two cities.
