SQLAuthority News – Pluralsight Giving Away Free Subscription to Quiz Participants

I am sure readers of this site are familiar with Pluralsight.  It is an online training site that describes itself as “a company created by developers, specifically for developers.”  At their site you can find training courses on a variety of topics and weekly webcasts by industry specialists.

Right now the latest news on the blog is that businesses can subscribe to Pluralsight to help train their employees: Pluralsight subscriptions for businesses.  The blog has also introduced course assessments so that users can track their progress – and employers can see how well their employees are doing. Pluralsight is also going to be sponsoring Tech-Ed Australia 2011.  The event runs from August 30 through September 2.  Pluralsight will have a booth at the event and will be giving away fun freebies that everyone looks forward to at these events.

As for courses, there is a huge variety to choose from.  Here is a short list of just a few of the most recent courses available: Web Performance, Windows Phone 7.5 Integrations Features, What’s New in C# 4.0, and Web Application Performance and Scalability Testing.  And these are just the ones listed on the front page! The Web Performance course was designed by Robert Boedigheimer, and focuses on how to reduce the number of files (like CSS, JavaScript, etc) that need to be downloaded when a web page is loaded, and thus increase speed and reduce bandwidth usage.  The Windows Phone 7.5 course was designed by Yacine Khammal, and investigates how to design apps that will blend seamlessly into phone usage – and how to get the most downloads.  These are only a few of the many courses offered!

Pluralsight also hosts weekly webcasts, every Thursday.  Recent speakers include Steve Michelotti discussing MVC Scaffolding, Julie Yack exploring Dynamics CRM, and Dan Sullivan talking about the Regex class.  Follow Pluralsight every Thursday at 11:00 AM EDT/15:00 UTC to listen and learn.

    3. I liked all the questions, but especially the #15 about the storage as this is when I learned something new. I also liked situations with the tricky questions when there was no correct answer among the choices and we had to figure this trick.

Q.8) You have tables named dbo.SalesInvoice and dbo.SalesInvoiceDetail.
CustomerID is located in the SalesInvoice table and InvoiceID is located in both tables.
You have been told to show the discount amounts from the SalesInvoiceDetail table that correspond to the sales of a specific CustomerID of 490.

Question 3) Which is your favorite question from Joes 2 Pros Contest? Why?
    Answer 3)

There are many i have listed down below ones which actually helped me a lot and got to learn a lot of things thanks to pinal Sir.

    Day 1 ) Wildcard Basics :

I didn’t know that we can do so much with wildcards searching from specific places to specific letter , range of letters words and special characters i just flew away and explored all that we can posssible do with it.

Day 12) Ranking functions got to know very much about RANK( ), DENSE_RANK( ), and ROW_NUMBER( ) .

By this i got to know how exactly ranking works in Universities and true usage of OVER() clause.

And it also helps me find out an answer to a question which was asked to me in one of the interviews i thought there is one way but it opened the gate and i was with another Idea how to do that.

I would like to take this opportunity to show what was question and reveal the answer for that:

Question ) You have DimEmployee table and EmployeeKey column which stores the values of Id of each employee but it is not primary key find me the 10th row.
    Nothing else was given:

Answer ) I got one answer long back but with that ranking function also we can get the solution.

Here are the queries if any one like to comment one the same always welcome.

    Query 1)
    use AdventureWorksDW2008R2

select Top 1 * from DimEmployee where EmployeeKey Not In ( Select Top 9 EmployeeKey from DimEmployee Order By EmployeeKey )

will fetch us the 10 th row and another query

    Query 2)
    use AdventureWorksDW2008R2

select * from (select * , RANK() Over(Order By EmployeeKey ) as RowNumber from DimEmployee ) As Number where RowNumber = 10

    All thanks to pinal Sir.
