SQL SERVER – 2008 – Four Key Pillars

As SQL Server 2008 is now ready to ship its final product in few months, I get many questions about what is new and attractive in SQL Server 2008.

SQL SERVER 2008 has four key pillars.

1) Enterprise Data Platform
It has heavily reliable database platform and can be expanded very quickly. IT also supports Hardware Security Module and Enterprise Key Management tools. Performance is key feature of SQL Server 2008.

2) Beyond Relational
This edition supports spatial datatypes, which can be used for Global Positioning System and Geographic Information System. Additionally, arbitrary size of the files can be stored in SQL Server and T-SQL provides additional supports to new features.

3) Dynamic Development
Many new features are added for dynamic development and integration with .net is very noticeable. LINQ and CLR are still key enhanced feature with this new version.

4) Pervasive Insight

Business Intelligence is priority for SQL Server 2008. SQL Server 2008 has enhanced already powerful tool of SQL Server Integration Services with new features. It is great Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) tool.
