I inspect each Supported Engine with SHOW ENGINES on MariaDB. A customer using MariaDB alongside SQL Server asked about this list. My original output came from MariaDB 10.4.8.

SHOW ENGINES;
Read Support first. DEFAULT identifies the default, YES indicates support, and NO or DISABLED indicates unavailability in that configuration. Transactions, XA and Savepoints describe distinct capabilities.
InnoDB was the default in this example. It supports transactions, foreign keys and row-level locking. XA supports distributed transactions across coordinated resources. The application must still configure and use those capabilities correctly.
MariaDB and MySQL share many commands, but their versions and features have diverged. Check the actual server output. I would not treat one as an interchangeable replacement based solely on familiar syntax.
Reference: MariaDB SHOW ENGINES.

A listed capability is not an application guarantee, it is support to assess on the actual server.
