SQL SERVER – Microsoft Certification – SQL Server 2012

Microsoft has recently introduced few changes in how the certification works. I have tried to simplify the same thing over here. The new certification line is called Microsoft cloud-built Certifications.

The mapping of the certifications is here.

Microsoft Certifications Microsoft Colud-build Certifications
MCM (Master) MCSM (Solutions Master)
MCITP (IT Professional)
MCPD (Professional Developer)
MCSE (Solutions Expert)
MCSD (Solutions Developer)
MCTS (Technology Specialist) MCSA (Solutions Associate)

Here is the image of pyramid which quickly explains the hierarchy of the indexes.

Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)

If you want to get MCSA you will need to pass following three exams.

  • Exam 70-461: Querying Microsoft SQL Server 2012
  • Exam 70-462: Administering Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases
  • Exam 70-463: Implementing a Data Warehouse with Microsoft SQL Server 2012

Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)

There two separate certifications are introduced in MCSE. One should have MCSA certification before they can attempt for MCSE.

1) MCSE: Data Platform

One has to pass following three exams besides having MCSA certification to get MCSE: Data Platform

  • Exam 70-464: Developing Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases
  • Exam 70-465: Designing Database Solutions for Microsoft SQL Server 2012

2) MCSE: Business Intelligence

One has to pass following three exams besides having MCSA certification to get MCSE: Data Platform

  • Exam 70-466: Implementing Data Models and Reports with Microsoft SQL Server 2012
  • Exam 70-467: Designing Business Intelligence Solutions with Microsoft SQL Server 2012

Microsoft Certified Solutions Master (MCSM)

When I am writing this there is not much changes in this program, but it is quite possible this program is changed based on when you are reading it. You are encouraged to read and validated further details about this program on its official page over here.

Read about Certifications over here.

  12. Hi Pinal !
there is a spelling mistake in “Microsoft Colud-build Certifications”.. i think it should be “Cloud” .

  13. Pinal,

So once the MCSE gets completed, how can be the MCSM be achieved? Do we have any training centers in Hyderabad or Bangalore who can train people, or would you like suggesting any online web based course for getting trained?

I have checked at the Microsoft website on the MCSM requirements, and it stated that the coaching has to be taken at Redmond with a 10 week class schedule, costing more than $18000. So I was just wondering we have any facility in India to achieve this certification.

    Thanks,
    Vinay
