I agree with Brian Tkatch and his references to the origins of the language. It is properly pronounced Sequel. I will further say that unless you are referring to the acronym itself, and pronouncing the letters for the acronym specifically as (ess-que-ell or ess-cue-ell), then you are factually incorrect. SQL was originally referred to by the acronym “SEQUEL” for the “Structured English Query Language” which was later renamed to SQL by dropping the vowels, because SEQUEL was a trade mark registered by the Hawker Siddeley aircraft company. Thus SQL was born. –
For those whom disagree, I would ask do you pronounce LINQ (Language Integrated Query) as the individual letters L-I-N-Q? It is pronounced like “Link”; not L-I-N-Q or “Link Cue”.
