    Here’s what i’d have said to my boss :-)

    I used Embarcadero’s DB Optimizer XE3 Tool because I couldn’t afford to lose the status of being so rare, i.e. being a DBA and having a girlfriend at the same time :-)

    And to make sure that i can get a go ahead from my boss for moving from a trial version to full license i’d have used this one:
    I used Embarcadero’s DB Optimizer XE3 Tool because time is money and with such a vast set of carefully designed features there’s no chance of losing time or money with DB optimizer :-)

  18. In larger firms in the USA with change control, you cannot fix indexes in 30 minutes. It takes planning cycles, perhaps hours if not days of testing and sign-offs by corporate project managers. So, this scenario is impossible in the largest banks and institutions. However, in small shops where changes in production are allowed “right now” – this may be reality.

    I would say that using a 3rd party tool can help the Jr. DBA. But if you cannot solve performance issues with SQL Profiler – then someone needs some education in the basics of SQL Server management.
