Well, the real question is going to be the SQL transition paths for those that have Software Assurance. Under the current 2008 SQL licening for Enterprise, if you license the physical processors you get unlimited instances of the s/w. However, in the R2 Enterprise is limited to "up to 25" and DataCenter now holds the unlimited instances.

So, inquiring minds *really* want to know for budget reasons -

If a customer currently has SQL Server Enterprise w/ SA will they be transitioned to SQL Server 2008 R2 DataCenter or will they have to purchase the Step Up SKU?

Any documentation you can find on this would be helpful as well.

Thanks,

Hi Sonal,

Software Assurance (SwA) is defined as “the level of confidence that software is free from vulnerabilities, either intentionally designed into the software or accidentally inserted at anytime during its lifecycle, and that the software functions in the intended manner.”
You can look this up in software engineering books/resources on google.
