There should not be any question with Jacob&#039;s word, this should be final as long as SQL Server and XML concern. I am agree with him too. There is no native way to do so, however you can have ApexSQL tool which can read your log file and can give you information, if you don&#039;t want to buy 3rd party tool than you have to go for Audit trail and creating audit trail for all tables manually, is really big and tedious process and it can also reduce the performance.

If you can explain your need further, we may be able to give you some other workaround.

Is it important to know what are the tables modified before a backup? What are you going to do with this information?

SQL Server does not give an out-of-the-box solution to this. If this information is important to your application logic, you should probably keep a timestamp column in your tables to keep track of the modifications.

You might also be able to identify this by using some of the third party tools that can read the trn log and get this info.
